Stephanie has been practicing therapy since 2011 after graduating from Syracuse University with her master's degree in social work. She has experience working with adolescents, adults and families. She treats a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, OCD, anger management, trauma, grief and loss, low self-esteem, and adjustment to life stages/events. Stephanie has experience using several modalities of treatment encompassing cognitive behavioral therapy, DBT, strength-based interventions, mindfulness practices, solution-focused therapy, and the developmental model for couples therapy. She is committed to collaborating with clients to heal from past trauma and develop a treatment plan that leads to greater connection with their present lives and relationships.
I like to take a collaborative approach to my sessions. I generally will ask a lot of questions, challenging you to think differently. My belief is that each of us know ourselves best and it is my role to unlock the skills you already have. I primarily use interpersonal therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
when appropriate. When working with me, you can expect to take away new concepts to ponder until the next session. I encourage you to come to session with anything that is on your mind. Together, we can break down different situations and find patterns that can be changed or strengthened. Often, our time together is limited and the true change comes as a result of the work done in between sessions.
I am a licensed master social worker and have extensive experience working with adolescents and their families in St. Lawrence County. Each client I work with I see as unique, with their own set of strengths and abilities to build on. You will be treated with respect, empathy, acceptance, and an open mind. Together, we will identify goals and potential solutions to problems through a solution-focused and person-centered approach. I compassionately assist each client to overcome, shape, and create their best self, overall leading to a greater self-understanding.
As a Potsdam area local, I am passionate about providing quality care to the members of our North Country communities. I like to take a team approach to therapy, meaning that I aim to work collaboratively with my clients to address their concerns. Life is full of challenges, and I feel strongly that no one should have to face them alone. Along with maintaining strong therapeutic alliances with my clients, destigmatizing and normalizing seeking support via therapy is also very important to me. One of my ongoing primary goals is for my clients to always feel heard, valued, and validated during our time working together. Some of the treatment interventions I use most often are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychoanalysis, Humanistic/Client-Centered Therapy, Strengths-based Therapy, and Family Systems Therapy. CBT is one of my favorite interventions, as I think it can encourage clients to achieve a sense of some control over their thoughts, emotions, and reactions. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in psychology from SUNY Potsdam in 2011, and my Master of Social Work degree from CUA in 2019. An area that continues to interest me is helping people recover from past traumas. This has led me to complete additional training focused on trauma-based interventions. I love to learn about new ways to best help others and I hope to never stop learning throughout my career.
In general, I see therapy as a valuable tool to help empower clients to reach personal goals, build various skills, and live the most satisfying life possible!
I am a clinical social worker who graduated with a master’s degree in social work from Syracuse University. I provide short and long-term counseling for various age groups and conditions. I have primarily worked with teens and adults who have presented with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma and behavioral problems impacting daily life.
I believe that people are doing the best they can with the knowledge and skills they have. At times we can feel stuck and need some insight and guidance to help us overcome challenges and move forward towards feeling better. I enjoy helping individuals overcome and resolve their problems by learning healthy coping skills and increasing self-esteem.
I am able to meet people where they are in a nonjudgmental manner in an environment that is safe, empathic, and conducive to growing, healing and change.
